Fight Club & Salt & Pepper Prawns

No posts after this one for a few weeks as I won’t have internet. Sad times.

I think Fight Club may be my favourite film and I watched it again for the umpteenth time recently.

I had another post with my faviourite films and film quotes in but I thought I’d share one of the quotes I adore and I would love to say in real life. This line shows how cool Tyler Durten is.

I shall set the scene (don’t worry – no spoilers. If that made you worried though, why haven’t you seen Fight Club Yet?!!)

This dish is easy to make, it is spicy and tastes amazing even without the dipping sauce. What more is there to say apart from

Serves :2
Prep Time : 10 minutes
Cooking Time: 10 minutes

1 garlic clove, crushed
1 chilli , finely chopped
1 tbsp caster sugar
1 – 2 limes, juice
Handful coriander (optional)
1 tbsp Sichuan peppercorns
4 black peppercorns
2 tbsp sea salt
Large pinch of chilli flakes
2 tbsp cornflour
Vegetable oil, for deep frying
Pack of raw prawns

Make the dipping sauce by crushing the garlic and chilli (and coriander) in a pestle and mortar.
Pound the sugar in, until it has dissolved.
Add lime juice.
Taste and adjust if necessary.
Toast the peppercorns for a minute
Crush in another pestle and mortar
Add the salt and flakes
Mix with the corn flour.
Heat the vegetable oil for deep fat-frying
Toss the prawns in the salt & pepper mixture.
Shake off the excess.
Deep fry for 1-2 minutes, or until crisp at the edges and starting to curl.
