Donna Margherita and Chilli and Pancetta Popcorn

The origins of margherita

Pizza Margherita, was invented in 1889 for Queen Margherita. The Queen liked pizza and wanted one. She had to choose between three different pizzas. She chose a pizza with the colours of the Italian flag: red (tomato), green (basil), and white (mozzarella). Supposedly, this kind of pizza was then named after the Queen as Pizza Margherita”

Before Pizza Pilgrims came Donna Margherita. It is a pizzeria in Clapham Junction and my girlfriend and I went there recently. It was a weekday and we used my Tastecard. A Tastecard is a card where you get discount off lots of different restaurants. The discount at the pizzeria was 2 for 1 on food – to use the Tastecard, you mostly have to book ahead.

We had a bottle of white wine, starters and a pizza each. My girlfriend’s starter was basil calamari (really delicious) and I had octopus (nice!).
Onto the pizza! My girlfriend had a pizza with olives, artichoke and ham on. I had a diavolo pizza (spicy salami). The pizzas were so good! The base was made out of sour dough (like Pizza Pilgrims), was incredibly tasty (like Pizza Pilgrims) but it had more selection than Pizza Pilgrims, was a slightly larger pizza and with the tastecard worked out cheaper!

Overall don’t waste time queuing for Pizza Pilgrims when Donna Margherita is better, cheaper, has more options and arguably a little tastier!

From pizza to popcorn.

My girlfriend and I bought a bag of popcorn kernels recently. The first few times we made salty popcorn. This time we thought we would try something else and it tasted amazing.
